Brian Sibley, Executive Director of Hamilton-East Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes was the guest speaker at the January 21 club meeting.
 
Brian talked about the importance of community and non-market housing as part of the solution to alleviating the housing crisis and some solutions as to how the private and non-profit sectors can work together.  A key issue to be overcome is housing affordability.  Hamilton-East Kiwanis is a member of the “Hamilton is Home” housing collaborative.
 
Brian has been the Executive Director of Kiwanis Homes Inc. since 2014. Kiwanis Homes is the third largest social housing provider in the Hamilton Region operating over 1,100 units. Their goal is to increase their portfolio by an additional 1,000 units by 2028. They currently have developed or are in process of developing 530 new units.
 
For much of his career, Brian has been involved in implementing and managing programs servicing marginalized client groups, including developing several transitional housing projects working with at-risk persons.
 
He is a grandfather of two wonderful grandchildren, a cancer survivor, and an unapologetic proponent of social change.
